The 8th traditional Zirve International Children’s Games, devoted to the 97th anniversary of national leader Heydar Aliyev, will commence. Due to the Covid 19 crisis in the world, this year’s competitions will be held in contactless (online). The games will be organized in accordance with the special regime – quarantine rules applied in the country.
Considering the situation, basketball, football, children’s athletics (long jump, symbolic javelin, etc.), archery (with equipments adapted for young children) and shooting (with equipments adapted for young children) competitions amid children will be held. Owing to the the principles of #stayhomebehealthy, if necessary, the equipment will be transported to the home of each young athlete and given a chance to compete individually. If this is not possible, athletes are expected to join online and perform these exercises at home by live broadcast. Whether on site or online, exercises done will be recorded as participation in the competitions, the results will be processed and individual winners will be determined by experts among all participants for each type and each age group.
Prizes and awards will be presented to the winners and medalists in electronic form at the initial stage according to the rules of the quarantine regime, and then in real life at the closing ceremony of the competition. The competition schedule and timetable, as well as the regulations of the competitions will be unfold to the public in the following days, considering the details. The 8th Zirve International Children’s Games were planning to held with the participation of about 10,000 athletes from more than 30 countries in Astara, May 2020, and the initial stage has been completed with appropriate work. However, due to the known pandemic, it was impossible to hold sports competitions, and the organization of the Games was in question.
The decision of the leadership of Zirve ISC to organize online competitions with alternative opportunities is to support the country’s sports policy despite all the difficulties, to participate in the healthy upbringing of the next generation, to preserve and continue the legacy of national leader Heydar Aliyev. At the 7th “Zirve” International Children’s Games, took place in AAAF Park Residential, Sport, Recreation and Entertainment Complex situated in Khirdalan and Astara on May 5-28, approximately 4000 athletes from 12 nations tested their powers in 27 sports.
