“Zirve” judoka Gunel Hasanli was 5th in the World Championship!


The World Judo Championship took place at the National Gymnastics Arena on September 20-27. Bronze medal was awarded to Azerbaijan’s Hidayat Heydarov, while Ushangi Kokauri of Azerbaijan was silver medalist.

On the final-8th competition day, mixed team competitions were held. In individual fight, Japan, which is superior to all countries, triumphed in the mixed team competition as well. The representative of “Gundoghar olka” was stronger than France in the final – 4:1. The event saw Russia and United Korea named bronze medalists in both the men’s and women’s events. In the fight for the bronze medal, team of Azerbaijan took 5th place, losing to the national team of Russia.

It is encouraging that the member of “Zirve” International Sport Clubs Gunel Hasanli was also in the Azerbaijan National team. Our young judoka, champion of Azerbaijan, participant of several international competitions Gunel has proven to have great prospects for the future.

Our athletes have won silver and bronze medals. The other athletes also demonstrated a very good fight, and our team is one of the leading teams. All are great achievements, Azerbaijan is a great success of the judo school and you make happy all our people, said the head of state”

Gunel Hasanli was also among the members of the national team that President Ilham Aliyev met.
