Azerbaijan Championship, among youth U 15-17 (2001-2002 and 2003-2005) , started in the competition hall of AZE WF Academy, in Shuvelan. First, the opening ceremony of the competition took place. First Vice-president of Azerbaijan Weightlifting Federation-Tofig Heydarov spoke about state care for sports in the country. He added that at present, weightlifting is in the new stage of development. Tofig Heydarov wished success to all the athletes participating in the Azerbaijan Championship.
The competition was declared open with the execution of National Anthem of Azerbaijan Republic. During the ceremony, a minute silence was also announced on the death of well-known weightlifting specialist Mammad Useynov.
Azerbaijan Championship, held annually, has been dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. The number of participants in this competition is also remarkable. One more point of the competition is that successful athletes here will be able to get an opportunity to be in the team that will take part in the European championship in Italy, on June.
Firstly, boys U-15 got on the platform in the competition. They competed in the B group of 50 kg weight category. About 150 athletes representing sport communities from all cities and villages of the country participate in the competition. In B group, Huseyn Agahev was a champion with 108 kg (50+58) weight category. Then, girls U 15-17 got on the platform. Winners were determined by the Sinclair table. Sema Mayilova was champion among the girls U-15 with a total of 136 kg (59+77) result and 191.41 Sinclair points. Lala Rzazade won gold medal among the girls U-17 with a total of 133 kg (63+70) result and 194.91 Sinclair points. On the first competition day, boys in the A group competed in 50 and 56 kg weight categories.
